Skinner was sure he had cleaned up last night, but clearly, he hadn't done as good of a job as he thought. He'd made it a crusade in his life to avoid Scully. Their relationship was wrong on many levels, not the least being job security. She'd found him working late last night, and maybe if he'd remained seated, she would have dropped the reports off and left, but he had to stand, had to touch her, had to have her, and now there was a smudge on the conference room table that he knew no one could see, but one he was all too conscious of. Scully was looking at that smudge now. She lifted her head and stared across the table at him, colour effused her face, and two minutes later, Skinner had to ask the agent speaking to repeat what he'd said. ~end
